History

The department has restored masterpieces from the Old Masters Gallery, later returned to Germany, as well as a number of pieced for galleries and museums in Romania, Bulgaria and Poland. The merits and skills of the Centre's restorers is implicitly recognized, not only in Russia, but also around the world; our specialists have on numerous occasions been invited by the world's leading museums to carry out restoration and consulting work.

The workshop's restorers have carried out a number of very complicated restoration projects over the years, including restoring paintings that have suffered damage as a result of flooding, fires, wars and other emergency situations. For example, the workshop restored several pieces of art that had been found in the rubble of the Chechen-Ingush Republic Museum of Fine Arts in Grozny, which was destroyed as a result of the war in the region. Much of the oil painting restoration workshop's work connected with restoring paintings that have been damaged by fire.
